Pakistan cricketer Mohammed Rizwan has taken to social media to defend his teammate Haris Rauf, with the wicketkeeper-batsman saying that the nationality of the fan who allegedly insulted Haris doesn’t matter.
“It doesn’t matter whether the person who insulted Haris Rauf is from Pakistan or India. What really matters is that this person lacked values and manners. No one has the right to insult a human being, especially in front of his family,” Rizwan wrote.
“Such terrible behaviour must stop. Values such as tolerance, respect and compassion are becoming increasingly rare,” he added.
Indian fans did not like the reference to “India” in Rizwan’s post, despite him mentioning that he is from Pakistan.
“The guy already said he is Pakistani. So what, Pakistanis are dragging India everywhere. You are just toying with PCT fans by creating fake scenarios and planned fights to divert attention from the failed World Cup,” one user wrote.
“The man in the green jersey is Pakistani and has admitted it himself. Why would an Indian go and take a selfie with a Pakistani? There is absolutely no need to mention India here,” wrote another.
“After losing consecutive matches against India, learn to accept defeat with grace instead of trying to paint a bad story against India,” another posted.
“Harris lacked values here. He should have treated people as individuals instead of calling them ‘Indians’ and calling them by their country. I understand his thought process but what can we expect from you,” another person commented on the Harris incident.
Battle of Haris-Rauf
Haris Rauf was earlier seen getting violent towards a fan who had allegedly abused his father. In the video, the Pakistani cricketer can be heard saying “Indian hoga (you must be Indian)”. However, the fan replied “Pakistan hoon (I am Pakistani)”.
As the video went viral, Rauf posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“I chose not to speak about this on social media but now that the video has been made public I feel the need to address the situation. As public figures we are open to any feedback from the public and they have the right to support us or criticise us,” he wrote.
