AGARTALA: Around 180 families of two village councils in Tripura’s Unakoti district have threatened to boycott the upcoming assembly elections citing the lack of development in their respective areas. Villagers of Gurunagar 1st ward and Bhagavannagar gram panchayat wards 6 and 7 are living in poor conditions due to lack of proper infrastructure, especially mud roads in their villages. Villagers said that despite Birajit Shukla Vaidya filing a complaint to the Chief Minister’s Office a year ago, no steps have been taken to repair the roads. “Despite instructions from the Chief Minister’s Office, the roads have not been repaired and other infrastructure has not received any attention for five years,” said a villager. He expressed dissatisfaction that repeated assurances from politicians before the elections are forgotten once the voting is over. In another move, Chief Minister Manik Saha has held a preparatory meeting with BJP leaders to discuss strategy for the upcoming three-tier panchayat elections. “Leaders of all BJP front organisations, state legislators, ministers and ADC members held detailed discussions on strategies to achieve decisive success in the three-tier panchayat elections following the party’s landslide victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections,” party spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty said.
