Bulldog Blitz: La Tech taps Louisiana talent pool with recruiting drive | KTVE

Ruston, Louisiana (KTVE/KARD) — With football season slowly fading away, the Louisiana Tech football team has been hard at work during the offseason trying to build up its roster for next fall. Head football coach Sonny Cumbie is confident in the job his team has done so far in recruiting.

“If you look back at our first recruiting class, it was the No. 1 recruiting class in Conference USA by some publications. Last year’s recruiting class was between No. 1 and No. 3 depending on where you look. We were very successful in the transfer portal last year in terms of the players we acquired and are off to a great start with our 2025 class. It’s an incredible group in terms of players who have done very well individually. They also come from a proven team that has won a state championship,” Cumby said.

He also isn’t shying away from the agenda he wants to push, from dipping into his own pocket to acquiring homegrown talent to preventing talent already on the roster from leaving elsewhere.

“As a staff, we talked about having 13 official visitors, and none of them flew in. They all drove in. That’s because of our location and the access we have to talented players. Seven of the 13 ended up signing, which is a pretty high success rate compared to the other six, so we’re really excited about that. I think we’ll have an opportunity to continue to add players to this class through the high school ranks as we go into late June and July. After that, we’ll focus on the season and the transfer portal, but I think for us, we’ll continue to recruit Louisiana kids,” Cumby said. “I’m really excited about the kids that are local and that we’ve been able to keep here. We’re still getting a few guys in a little bit, but we’re hopeful we can keep them here.”
