Texas Tech softball team hires Louisiana native Jerry Glasco as new head coach

The Texas Tech softball team has a new leader.

Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt announced Thursday that Jerry Glasco will be the Red Raiders’ new head coach. Glasco will replace Craig Snyder, who was hired as an assistant coach at Tennessee earlier this month.

Glasco has coached the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns for the past seven years, compiling a winning percentage of .773. During Glasco’s tenure, Louisiana compiled a 300-88 record, won five Sun Belt Conference regular season championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each year of eligibility.

Louisiana advanced to the 2023 Super Region as the No. 13 seed in the nation.

“I am excited, thrilled and honored to coach the Texas Tech softball program,” Glasco said in a news release. “Under the guidance of our outstanding executive team, led by Kirby Hocutt, I look forward to helping Texas Tech softball become one of the best programs in the country. We will build a culture of competition and excellence in everything we do on and off the field.”

UL softball coach Jerry Glasco disputed an umpire's call as the Raging Cajuns faced off against the University of Texas at Arlington Mavericks in a doubleheader at Yvette Girouard Field on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Glasco began his collegiate coaching career at Georgia State in 2009, where he was promoted to associate head coach from 2012-2014. He also served as associate head coach at Texas A&M (2015-2017) and Auburn (2017) before taking over as head coach at the University of Louisiana in 2018.

Glasco, who played in two Women’s College World Series at Georgia and two at Auburn, has never missed an NCAA Regional Tournament in her 15 years as a college coach, except for the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

Texas Tech last appeared in the NCAA Regional Tournament in 2019.

A virtual press conference will be held on Friday to officially introduce Glasco as the next head coach.
