Virginia Tech’s huge freshman recruiting weekend got off to a great start on Thursday when defensive tackle Christian Evans committed to the Hokies.

Evans is a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive tackle out of Stonebridge High School in Ashburn, Virginia. Stonebridge is one of the powerhouse schools in the state of Virginia and will be a big addition to the Hokies. Evans will join his high school teammate, redshirt freshman tight end Zeke Wimbush, on the University of Virginia roster.

Evans chose the Hokies over the other finalists, the University of Oklahoma and the University of North Carolina.

Why the Hokies?

“I chose Virginia Tech because it met all of my criteria for a college,” Evans told 247Sports’ Evan Watkins. “Virginia Tech is ranked among the top 20 public universities and 47th best in the country, which speaks to the high level of academics at the school.”

Evans cited his relationship with the Virginia Tech coaching staff as another reason for choosing the Hokies.

“Another reason I chose Virginia Tech was because of the good relationships I had with the staff and my history there. Virginia Tech was the first school that really started recruiting me in earnest when I was a sophomore.”

Evans took an official visit to Blacksburg last week after it was revealed he would be joining the Hokies.

Evans is the seventh player in Virginia Tech’s 2025 freshman recruiting class, a position that could expand soon with several top players expected to be on campus for official visits this weekend. Evans is the sixth player in Virginia Tech’s 2025 freshman recruiting class.

Evans was named defensive line MVP at the Under Armour Camp earlier this year and is a bright prospect, and his addition is a win for head coach Brent Pry on a number of fronts. First, he’s adding a quality player. Second, he’s Pry’s second player from Stonebridge, a prestigious school.

Welcome home, Christine.
