Since joining the committee, Sally has gained an understanding of the strategies, grant partners and initiatives that Macquarie Sport implements throughout the year, and as a former elite athlete, Sally is able to offer a unique perspective on new initiatives.
“When appropriate, I also like to bring my perspective as an athlete and use my past experiences to create new initiatives and provide a different perspective.”
Sally also volunteers with Macquarie University, providing opportunities for young people to try surfing, including learning to surf as part of the Surfing Australia Coach Lady program.
Sally feels that through the Macquarie Sports Committee she can make an impact in Macquarie, and the sporting community more broadly.
“Simply put, I want to give the gift of sport and all it has to offer to more people. For my colleagues, it could be volunteering at clinics, providing memorable opportunities and experiences for different communities. For other athletes, I want to continue to find more opportunities for Macquarie Sport to support athletes as they transition from sport to a career at Macquarie. This includes the continued development of the Macquarie Sport Scholarship program and developing new initiatives for retiring athletes,” Sally said.
