Winnett, a deputy editor at Telegraph Media Group in London, did not immediately respond to The Post’s inquiries.
“We are pleased that Rob Winnett has decided to stay with us,” Telegraph editor-in-chief Chris Evans wrote in a memo to staff. “As you all know, he is a talented individual and their loss is our gain.”
His hiring was announced just two-and-a-half weeks ago by William Lewis, who has been The Washington Post’s publisher and CEO since January and previously worked with Winnett at The Telegraph and The Sunday Times.
A Telegraph spokesman said the paper would not comment beyond Friday’s staff memo from Mr Evans.
Winnett, who had spent her entire career in British journalism and was virtually unknown in the U.S. media world, had been appointed by Lewis to oversee the paper’s traditional news division after the election.
