* Heat warning Saturday afternoon to evening *

It’s a somewhat subjective rating of the weather for that day on a scale of 0 to 10.

4/10: It’s too hot to rate any better. Very sunny. Good humidity and a light breeze will make it feel like 100 degrees. And there’s still room for it to drop.

  • today: Very sunny. Moderate humidity. Highs: low to mid 90s.
  • tonight: Mostly sunny. Humid. Lows: Near to mid 70s.
  • tomorrow: Hot and humid. Showers/storms? Highs: Mid 90s to around 100°F.
  • Sunday: There’s a slight chance of strong storms.High temperatures: Mid 90s to around 100 degrees.

What could be the hottest weekend in years arrives today, with a slight increase Saturday into Sunday. Dangerously high temperatures and high humidity will persist for an extended period of time, putting the entire region at risk. We may see afternoon highs of 105-110 degrees, so a heat advisory will be in effect for Saturday, which could extend into Sunday. There is a chance of a slight storm by Saturday, and a few strong storms on Sunday and Monday.

If you’re not already prepared for the heat, do so by drinking plenty of water, replenishing your electrolytes, slowing down, seeking shade, wearing light, light-colored clothing, etc. Finally, look for air conditioning and help those around you who are in need.

Today (Friday): There may be one day of very sunny, “moderate” humidity (dew points typically in the mid-60s). Temperatures in the low to mid-90s may feel closer to 100 in humid areas, but dangerous heat index levels are unlikely to be as widespread as they were over the weekend. Unfortunately, there will be limited winds from the south, so don’t expect any cooling. Reliability: High

tonight: Warm, mostly sunny weather continues. Humidity increases slightly as the “Strawberry” full moon rises in the east. Temperatures will be at their lowest by sunrise, dropping into the mid to upper 70s. Reliability: High

Tomorrow (Saturday): A heat advisory means there’s a risk of heat index temperatures reaching around 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures alone could approach record levels in some places, reaching the mid-90s to around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, not counting high dew point temperatures near 70 degrees. A lucky few (especially on the west and north sides of town) may see some cooling rain or storms in the afternoon. But overall, it’s sunny with more than a light breeze. Confidence: Medium to high

tomorrow night: Localized storms may continue through the night, but most of the region remains dry. Steady southerly winds will result in the warmest (just on the edge of danger) overnight lows of this heatwave, around 80 degrees downtown and mid-70s for those lucky enough to be away from dense urban areas. Stay cool and check on anyone or pets who are not. Reliability: Medium to High

Sunday: With high humidity and temperatures in the mid to low 90s, it could feel like 105 to 110 degrees again. The slightly lower target temperature makes record high temperatures more likely than Saturday. An improvement over Saturday is that winds will increase and clouds will build as afternoon and evening showers and storms approach (40 percent chance). Any storms that do form could be severe. Confidence: Medium

Sunday Night: Temperatures will once again be muggy and low in the 70s as humidity peaks and dew points may reach above 70 degrees Fahrenheit. This inviting atmosphere will increase the chances of rain and storms overnight and into sunrise. A flurry or two of hail and strong winds are still possible. Reliability: Medium

Strong storms are most likely to occur Monday While it may still be limited in scope, the passing cold front is cutting through hot, humid air. As it gets closer, details of the serious threat will become clearer. Lightning, heavy rain, damaging wind gusts, and hail are possible, but unfortunately half of the area will remain dry. High temperatures will be around 95 degrees. Reliability: Medium

A little bit of “dry heat” Tuesday Rain is possible behind the cold front. Temperatures may still be in the low to mid 90s Fahrenheit, but with a bit of luck, dew points may stay below 60 Fahrenheit, keeping it in a comfortable range. Skies are expected to be clear. There is also a chance of brief afternoon showers and storms in the area. Confidence: Medium
