MILWAUKEE, Wis. — The Secret Service has released a security zone impact map for the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

With it now clear which businesses will be affected, TMJ4 sought out local businesses in and around the district to ask them how they are preparing for the Republican National Convention.

Copper, which opened in May, is located on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, just two blocks from Fiserv Forum, home of the Republican National Convention.

For owner Peter Marshall, the RNC will be the first big event for his new bar and restaurant.

“I’m really excited,” Marshall told TMJ4 when asked how he felt. “I’m confident I can handle it.”

The copper is on the right side where the yellow “vehicle restricted zone” changes to the red “pedestrian restricted zone.”

TMJ4 was the first to show Marshall the map.

“It’s a reminder of just how big it’s going to be,” Marshall said. “When you look at the map, you can see how widespread it is. We’re going to have people here from all over the world.”

Marshall said he has been in contact with RNC officials since construction began in January and has helped guide RNC guests to events and businesses.

Outside the zone, TMJ4 visited two different businesses: Boone and Crockett in the Harbor District, which said it has no plans to change anything for the event;

“We’re canceling all Republican National Convention events and we’re going to do what we want to do,” Boone & Crockett owner Emily Del Revord said.

Emily Del Revord and Mitch Sciorhorn, owners of The Cooperage, said they wouldn’t change anything for the Republican National Convention and that while everyone is welcome, they would like to host an event that is more in line with their beliefs.

At the Pepper Pot in the Bronzeville neighborhood, owner Dwight Jackson saw an opportunity.

“Most of these businesses are black-owned, so it’s great for us to have the Republican National Convention coming to town,” Jackson said.

Dwight Jackson, owner of the Pepper Pot, said his restaurant is directly across from the Republican Community Center on North/King Streets, so he’s been reaching out to people to visit during the Republican National Convention.
