CMU President attends grand opening ceremony

CMU Board of Trustees Chairman Tim Fry joined Mesa County and local leaders who gathered to host the grand opening of the Clifton Community Campus on Saturday, June 22. Stakeholders focused on the overall positive impact the center will have in providing education, services and resources to Clifton residents.

The Clifton Community Campus will serve as a community gathering place and will include a collection of spaces to enhance community services and meet community needs, including the Clifton Community Center, Clifton Childcare Center, Early Childhood Education Center and Training, and a Clifton Library Branch. CMU Tech will offer educational programming at the center to improve access to education for those living on the eastern edge of the Grand Valley by eliminating the need for commutes.

The Clifton Community Center has secured classroom space for CMU Tech and will be the home for future courses for working adults seeking educational opportunities outside of work hours and on weekends. On the west side of the building, community members can look forward to interacting with CMU Tech’s Mobile Learning Lab, which serves mechatronics, welding and medical professionals. The center already hosts a variety of CMU Tech’s summer camps, including filmmaking, culinary arts and STEM.

CMU’s contributions and collaborative efforts with Mesa County and other agencies demonstrated the alignment of values between CMU and its partner institutions.

“Colorado Mesa University provides opportunities for a better life through education,” said CMU President John Marshall. “We do this in many ways, but our role in this partnership was developed with the specific and unique needs of Clifton residents in mind.”
