Shillong, June 23: The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) will be electing its new officers for the academic year 2024-2025 on Monday. The elections will be held at the NEHU Community Hall, Shillong from 10 am to 4 pm.
Campaigning ended at 4pm on Sunday. Vote counting is scheduled to begin at 9am on Tuesday at the NEHUSU office.
Mr David Pyngrope, the Electoral Officer (RO) for the Student Government Elections, emphasised the importance of students and researchers bringing their ID cards on the polling day, and in case ID cards are not readily available, bill passbook or certificate from the relevant Dean will suffice as proof of identity.
Pingrove outlined the election rules and said that printed posters, pamphlets and other printed materials are prohibited from being used in campaigning. Homemade posters are permitted, however. Campaigning using loudspeakers is also prohibited. Additionally, on election day, candidates and student organisations are not allowed to provide or distribute any consumable items, other than water.
The candidates for the key positions are: Chairperson: Kenny Karvitai (Faculty of Law, 10th semester) and Sandy Sothun (Faculty of Adult and Continuing Education, 4th semester); Vice Chairpersons: Riki Daybrom Rabon (Faculty of Environmental Studies, 2nd semester) and Pibarisisha Nongbusap (Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, 2nd semester); Secretary General: Toniho S. Karsati (Faculty of Law, 6th semester) and Bantamdol Karbi (Faculty of Political Science, 2nd semester).
