The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Anti-Human Trafficking Wing arrested a human trafficker in Lahore, Pakistan on Sunday.
The operation resulted in the recovery of seven Pakistani passports, six CNIC cards and assorted counterfeit stamps from the suspect, Azhar. A case has been filed against him and legal proceedings have been initiated, according to Pakistani broadcaster ARY News.
Earlier this month, the FIA arrested another suspect involved in human trafficking and visa fraud from Mirpur Khas. The suspect, identified as Maqsood, had allegedly duped a national by promising him a work visa for Portugal and swindled him out of Rs 1 million before going into hiding with his accomplices. The FIA said it has launched an investigation into the case to uncover more information and arrest others linked to the crime.
The FIA’s Immigration Bureau made further arrests on charges of human trafficking, taking two into custody by June 15: Muhammad Nabi and Aminullah. The suspects were arrested at Peshawar airport as they were trying to leave the country. Muhammad Nabi, a key suspect in human trafficking and visa-related fraud, was arrested as he was about to board a flight to Oman. Upon inspection, authorities found a large number of fake visa stickers stored on Nabi’s mobile devices. Meanwhile, Nabi is said to be involved in several ongoing investigations at FIA Composite Circle Mardan.
Both operations are part of the FIA’s ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and related crimes across the country.
In another anti-trafficking operation last month, the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle in Rawalpindi reportedly arrested six traffickers, ARY News reported.
