ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 24, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — As connectivity becomes increasingly important to all aspects of major sporting and entertainment events, Verizon has unveiled an innovative first-of-its-kind portable private network. The prototype solution provides secure, reliable private connectivity for critical communications required for operations, security, event production and fan experience in stadiums and other venues when permanent private networks are not available.
Verizon used a prototype of this portable private network at last weekend’s UFL Championship Game at the Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and has shipped similar portable private networks to Sao Paulo, Brazil, London, UK, and Munich, Germany to provide reliable connectivity for NFL game play operations and support real-time, in-game communications between on-field coaches in overseas football games this fall. The private network can power sideline tablets, connected broadcast cameras, live streaming social media activity, on-field cameras, wearables and communications between coaches without being overwhelmed by data traffic generated by fans.

In addition to a variety of uses for sporting events, the solution provides the critical levels of security, reliability and capacity required for front office operations, stage crews organizing showtimes for a concert, security personnel communicating operational instructions at a parade, or production crews broadcasting from temporary sets in remote locations. Verizon’s “Network in a Box” can scale to support up to 50 cellular radios and can utilize shared or licensed spectrum and in-venue or on-premise fiber optic connections to generate private cellular connections for customers.
“The evolution of our network over the past few years has allowed us to create a more modular and portable private network that is ideal for situations where the security, scalability, reliability, customization and personalization of a private network are required, but a permanent private network is not a sustainable solution,” said Andrea Caldini, vice president of technology and product development at Verizon. “This prototype solution has already proven successful at a number of live events, with further expansion planned. The inherent value of this solution is that it can be deployed in a variety of scenarios where private network capabilities are required, including one-off parade routes, mobile production environments, mobile sporting events and outdoor concert venues.”
