Zoe Law next to her job rejection application

There’s a frustrating trend in the workplace in Australia that’s sure to add to the woes of job seekers across the country. You may have applied for a job you saw online and had high hopes for your new job.

But after submitting your application, you never hear back. It could be that you weren’t the right candidate, or that the job never even existed.

Graham Wynne, founder of Superior People Recruitment, said: Yahoo Finance “Ghosting job ads” is an unfortunate process that many businesses engage in.

“What a lot of companies, especially recruiters, do is put trade-related jobs on there, because if they have the budget, the more jobs they put on there, the less small businesses can compete,” he said.

“So their work always shows up first, and then the smaller work gets pushed further down the page.”

He added that when companies use Seek, Indeed or other job sites, they typically pay a package fee for a certain number of ads, and if they don’t use all of their ad inventory, they just run “fake” ads to fill the gaps.

But that’s not the only reason companies run ghost ads.

“Some recruiters [the ads] “As a marketing tool to say, ‘We specialize in these areas. Check out our open positions,'” Wynn said.

“There are no such vacancies, but employers see vacancies in that industry and think, ‘This person must be good in this industry, let me give them a call.’ So it’s like a marketing tool.”

Wynn said: Yahoo Finance It is important for job seekers to check how long a job advertisement has been posted.

“When I look at the website it says the job was posted 12 months ago but clearly the job doesn’t exist,” he said.

It’s also possible that the roles you see online are only there because they have to be there.

Wynn gave the example of a company that recently had to advertise a job online because it needed to demonstrate it was open to external candidates, but it already had someone hired internally.

“But the EBA had to advertise online, so they did so knowing full well that they had already selected the right person for the job,” he said.

For work do If there are, there may be some sort of “ghostliness” about them too.

The founder of a recruitment firm said jobs sometimes remain on the site. rear The position was filled in case the successful candidate declined or to gather market intelligence.

Rejection is brutal, but control what you can.

People often take to social media to complain about the current job market, with some saying they’ve applied to dozens, or even hundreds, of jobs without even getting a response.

Wynn said that because of new technology that only advances candidates with the right skills to the first round, it’s difficult for all applicants to receive a message letting them know whether their application was successful.

But that doesn’t help the many Australians who are hurt by every rejection.

Zoe Law had been searching for work for four months since her full-time contract as a cancer research assistant came to an end, and despite spending countless hours writing applications, she found herself “losing contact and being rejected” by most of the jobs she applied for.

“At first I was so stressed out about finding work quickly that I was applying to so many jobs every day,” the 24-year-old explained. Yahoo Finance.

“I know it’s a process and it will take time, especially now when so many people are looking for work. But I never thought I’d be without work for this long.”

But she has since changed her mindset and isn’t letting the constant rejection get to her.

Law told himself, “This is going to take time” and “I’m doing the best I can.”

“And that put me in the mindset that no matter what happens, I’ll be OK,” she said.

Unemployment is falling, but competition is increasing

The unemployment rate fell to 4% in May from 4.1% in April.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics said the fall was due to a large group of people who were waiting to start work at the last survey.

But competition for jobs is fierce now: A SEEK survey found that job advertisements fell 4.7% from April to May, but the number of applications per job posting increased 8.6%.

“We saw a significant increase in the number of applications per job advertisement across almost every industry in March, with competition for real jobs continuing to intensify,” SEEK ANZ managing director Kendra Banks said.

“So companies have a lot of eager candidates and employers have a lot of power in the market.”
