Nancy Meyers’ film universe is acclaimed for its charming blend of romance and comedy, but for her cult following, it’s her interior decor that is the most coveted feature of her movies. The filmmaker recently shared photos of his Spanish-style home, which features a terracotta roof, greenery surrounding the windows, and most notably, butter yellow paint. The hue is currently all the rage in interiors, and seeing it on the exterior of the home is a unique take on the trend.

Rowland explains that butter yellow is one of the most soothing and calming colors chosen for homes, so decorating the exterior of your home with yellow will give passersby the impression that your home is calm and peaceful.

No matter what room it’s used in, the warm yellow creates a calming atmosphere,” he says. “One of the reasons this color is so popular in living spaces and kitchens is because it exudes a soothing warmth and creates a relaxing atmosphere.”

While there are countless color options that pair well with butter yellow, Roland has a few specific recommendations.
“The butter yellow shade is highly adaptable, so it can be paired with many other colors, such as earthy neutrals for a balanced feel, crisp blacks and whites to add a modern, contemporary feel to your home, or even bolder shades such as navy blue to create contrast in the space,” he suggests.
This means that the butter yellow exterior pairs well with dark accents and greige doors.
