Mr. Naqvi and Mr. Janjun discussed training and capacity development with modern equipment and technology in the Local Education Boards of Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD: Chinese Interior Minister Qi Yanjun on Thursday met his Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and assured “full cooperation” in training Pakistan’s Special Security Unit (SPU) and other security-related matters.
The meeting, which took place at the office of China’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, discussed cooperation in training and capacity building of Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies using latest equipment and technology.
The Chinese minister appreciated the establishment of the unit in Islamabad, which is aimed at protecting Chinese nationals in the country, especially following a series of terror attacks targeting Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
The two ministers discussed relations between the two countries and security issues facing the region.
“Pakistan and China will have friendly relations under all circumstances. The friendship between Pakistan and China is stronger than iron,” Foreign Minister Yang Jun said during his meeting with Interior Minister Naqvi.
The meeting between the two ministers came days after Islamabad approved Operation Azm-e-Istekam as a “collective multi-faceted operation of the entire national system and a national vision” in the wake of rising terror incidents.
Earlier this month, during his meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong, Foreign Minister Naqvi assured Chinese nationals working on various projects in Pakistan of complete security and reiterated that no one wants to create a rift between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister assured his Interior Minister that Islamabad was taking all necessary measures for the safety of Chinese nationals in Pakistan following past attacks.
He also briefed Yang Jun on the progress of the investigation into the Das terror attack.
Following today’s report, Yangjun expressed satisfaction with the ongoing investigation into the incident and asserted that Pakistani agencies have handled the case diligently and professionally.
Meanwhile, the Chinese minister extended an invitation to Naqvi to participate in the World Security Forum to be held in September this year, which the home minister accepted.
Naqvi also reiterated the strong friendship between the two countries and invited the Chinese to visit Pakistan. “We are all proud of our friendly relations with China.”
Naqvi and Yangjun are currently in New York to attend the UN COP meeting.
