ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The Albany Capital Center will host the inaugural USA Powerlifting Open World Cup, with competition starting at 8 a.m. Saturday. The competition will run through Sunday, with competitors from 22 states competing to qualify for other national powerlifting meets.
Saturday afternoon lifting begins at 2 p.m. Competition begins Sunday at 9 a.m. with afternoon lifting beginning at 2 p.m. Spectator admission is $20 and a complete schedule of events can be found on the Bent Bar Powerlifting website.
The meet is being held in Albany for the first time, and participants are looking to set new national and world powerlifting records. USA Powerlifting is the national organization that governs the Open World Cup and other lifting events, including the squat, bench press and deadlift.
Shannon Lisigievicz, general manager of the Albany Capital Center, said she is looking forward to the meet and welcoming powerlifters to the Capital Region. “It’s exciting to see the incredible achievements of Capital Region powerlifters translate into future success at USA Powerlifting events on the national stage,” Lisigievicz said.
