Srinagar, June 27: In a significant development, the Chief Election Officer of Jammu and Kashmir has written to the District Election Officers (DEOs) to initiate activities as outlined in the Election Plan Paper of the Election Commission of India for the conduct of state assembly elections in the Union Territory.
Quoting an official letter, news agency KNO reported that the CEO has written to all 20 deputy commissioners, who are also district election officers, to begin work on which they should take up as “election planners” as notified by the Election Commission.
“As you are aware, the Election Commission of India has issued a Summary Revision Schedule for Electoral Rolls vide letter No. 23/2024-ERS (vol.III) dated June 20, 2024, thus initiating the process of conducting the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Accordingly, you are directed to initiate the activities envisaged in the Election Plan notified by the Election Commission of India vide letter No. 464/INST/2022-EPS dated December 27, 2022, so that the pre-election activities are properly conducted and completed within the stipulated time period and the Assembly elections are successfully conducted,” the CEO office letter said.
Election planners act as guides in the preparation of various plans and activities carried out by the election authorities to conduct elections.
On June 20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said preparations have begun for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. “Nothing could be better than the people of Jammu and Kashmir choosing their own representatives and addressing their issues through them. That is why preparations for the Assembly elections have begun. The day is not far when you will use your votes to elect the new government of Jammu and Kashmir. The day will soon come when Jammu and Kashmir will once again shape its future as a state,” he said.
