BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Local Republican and Democratic leaders say they’re just looking forward to hearing what each candidate has to say about their plans for our country.
Bay County Republican Tor Bishop said he expects former President Donald Trump to talk about the differences between his term and the past four years, as well as the economy and border security.
“I think the economy is the No. 1 issue right now, and again, I think we have to contrast the two records here,” said Bay County Republican Party Chairman Tor Bishop. “Again, I’m particularly interested in the weaponization of government. Biden is ranting about Donald Trump being a threat to democracy, but in reality, under his administration, we’ve seen a weaponization of government to attack political opponents. That’s the real threat to our norms, and I hope that given the level of moderation in this debate, that it will be given the appropriate amount of time.”
The Bay County Democratic Party chairman said he expects President Joe Biden to talk about his economic plan, tax credits for first-time homebuyers and affordable housing caps.
“First of all, I expect to see a debate on what they’re going to do over the next four years,” said Bay County Democratic Party Chair Laura Bjorklund. “Their plan is how to improve the life of the average person, so I’m not too worried about Biden showing that side of it. What I would like to see from him is a plan on the economy and democracy in general. Specifically, I would like to see his plan on improving household finances, even though the job market is strong and inflation is finally starting to come down. He’s lowered some drug prices.”
