The Port of San Antonio is the first terminal in the continental Americas to use an automated mooring system that improves safety and operational efficiency.

SAN ANTONIO, Chile, June 28, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — DP World, a global leader in supply chain solutions, has announced the installation of MoorMaster™ NxG automated mooring technology at its terminal in the Port of San Antonio, Chile. This milestone marks the first installation of the system in the Americas and the first within DP World’s global network.

Developed by Cavotec, the MoorMaster system revolutionizes the mooring process with automated vacuum pads that secure and release vessels within seconds. This cutting-edge technology significantly improves the efficiency and safety of port operations, which is especially important in the Port of San Antonio, which is known to experience high waves of over 2.5 meters. In these conditions, traditional mooring operations are often delayed and pose significant safety risks, including broken mooring lines.

The MoorMaster system is expected to significantly improve the terminal’s operational performance. The technology will shorten mooring times, reduce the risk of mooring line failure and increase productivity when loading and discharging vessels.

Curtis Doiron, CEO of Chile’s DP World, said: “The implementation of the MoorMaster system at our San Antonio terminal marks a transformational moment for DP World in Chile and demonstrates our commitment to cutting-edge maritime technology. This cutting-edge technology not only streamlines and improves our operations, but also fundamentally enhances the safety of all team members working at the port. By significantly reducing the risks associated with traditional mooring, we are setting new industry standards for safety and efficiency.”

“We are pleased to be working with NASA to bring this technology to the shore,” said Patrick Mares, president of Cavotec’s Ports & Maritime division. “We are excited that DP World has adopted our MoorMaster NxG technology in the Port of San Antonio, marking an important milestone as the first deployment in the Americas. This technology is designed to transform the mooring process and we are confident that this deployment will set a new standard in maritime operations. We are excited to support DP World as they modernize their operations and achieve unparalleled safety and efficiency at their terminal.”

The implementation of the $7 million MoorMaster investment in San Antonio is part of a broader strategy to modernize and improve safety and productivity standards across DP World’s global network. The adoption of this technology will also benefit other DP World terminals in similar situations.
