Images provided by MGA Entertainment Products and the Consumer Product Safety Commission show products that have been recalled for violating federal hazardous substances laws due to their high content of hydroxyethyl methacrylate “HEMA” and isobornyl acrylate “IBOA.”

of Food and Drug Administration The FDA announced a recall of all Diamond Shrooms brand products after the company’s “microdosing” sweets are allegedly causing dozens of illnesses in recent weeks.

The FDA said in a statement Friday that Prophet Premium Blends, a distributor of Diamond Shrooms products, recalled its products on Thursday.

“According to the company, these products contain muscimol, a chemical found in some mushrooms, which may be a potential cause of symptoms consistent with some observed in people who became ill after consuming Diamond Shrooms brand products,” the FDA press release stated. “FDA is currently evaluating this information.”

The FDA also said chemical testing of two Diamond Shrooms products revealed the presence of a psychoactive substance called O-acetylpsilocin, or psilacetin, which was allegedly contained in both the company’s dark chocolate bar and its Birthday Cake chocolate bar.

Diamond Shrooms dark chocolate bars also contained desmethoxyyangonin, dihydrokabain and kabain. The FDA said its investigation into these products is still ongoing.

“Medical personnel at the FDA and CDC are interpreting these test results to understand the health risks of ingesting these chemicals and to determine appropriate next steps,” the FDA said.

To date, there have been 39 cases of illness linked to the product, 23 of which have resulted in hospitalization, with reports saying the sweets have caused a range of symptoms from seizures to nausea.

“People who became ill after eating Diamond Shrooms brand microdosed chocolate bars reported a variety of serious symptoms, including seizures, central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, drowsiness), agitation, abnormal heart rhythm, high or low blood pressure, nausea, and vomiting,” the FDA reported.

According to the Diamond Shruumz website, their “microdosing” products are not intended to be hallucinogenic and do not contain psilocybin. “Microdosing” generally refers to the ingestion of very small amounts of hallucinogens.

“It contains no psilocybin, Amanita phalloides or any other scheduled drugs, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience,” the company claims. “Rest assured, not only are our treats hallucinogen-free, but our carefully crafted ingredients provide the experience.”
