Severe weather expected in Massachusetts on Sunday; map shows storm timing and path

BOSTON — The WBZ NEXT Weather Team has issued a NEXT Weather Warning for possible severe storms Sunday afternoon and evening.

Risk of severe weather

The Storm Prediction Center reported that most of New England, including all of Massachusetts, was at risk of “minor” severe weather.

The storm could bring damaging winds, hail and heavy rain, and there is a low but non-zero risk of tornadoes (currently around 2%).

What time does the storm start?

A few showers will start the day early in the morning, followed by a lull before scattered showers and storms move in by the early to mid afternoon. The showers and line of storms then move eastward through the evening.

The storm watch period is from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

High temperatures will also climb near 90 degrees on Sunday with dew points in the 70s, bringing even more warmth and humidity, which will lead to more powerful and unsettled storms.

It will rain on Monday

There may be a slight chance of rain on Monday, but overall it will be a drier and more comfortable day with warmer temperatures expected mid-week as we approach the Fourth of July holiday. Keep an eye on the radar for Sunday.
