Sacramento firefighters put out fire on American River Parkway; 80 businesses reopen

Firefighters have extinguished a vegetation fire along the American River Parkway in Sacramento. The fire broke out just before 4 p.m., just west of the Capital City Freeway. Caltrans cameras at Business 80 and Elvas Avenue showed a column of thick, black smoke. According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the fire has burned three acres. KCRA 3 crews saw the fire burn up onto the freeway. Both directions of Business 80 were briefly closed at the American River Bridge but reopened just after 5 p.m. Multiple resources, including a helicopter, were called in to fight the fire.

Firefighters extinguished a vegetation fire along the American River Parkway in Sacramento.

The fire broke out just before 4 p.m., just west of the Capital City Freeway, and Caltrans cameras at Business 80 and Elvas Avenue showed thick, black smoke rising from the area.

According to the Sacramento Fire Department, the fire burned three acres.

KCRA 3 fire crews saw the fire spread all the way onto the freeway.

Business 80 was briefly closed in both directions at the American River Bridge, but reopened just after 5 p.m.

Multiple firefighting resources, including a helicopter, were called in to extinguish the blaze.
