  • Daemon Targaryen is a fan favorite from House of the Dragon.
  • If the TV series stays faithful to the original story, the character is destined to die during the Civil War.
  • Here’s how Damon dies in George R.R. Martin’s “Fire and Blood.”

caveat: Contains major spoilers for “House of the Dragon” season 2 and the book “Fire and Blood.”

The latest episode of “House of the Dragon” Season 2 may have hinted at the death of Daemon Targaryen.

Damon, one of two contenders for the Iron Throne, is one of the most popular characters in the hit Game of Thrones prequel series, spawning countless naughty memes and making Matt Smith, the actor who plays him, fall in love with him.

But in the first few episodes of Season 2, Damon makes a number of reckless decisions that bring the kingdom closer to civil war.

Daemon orders the assassination of his nephew and brother-in-law, Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell), and has the young prince Jaehaerys Targaryen killed instead, then flies off to Harrenhal with his dragon Caraxes, leaving his wife, niece, and queen, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma Darcy), to clean up the mess he’s created.

In the third episode, Daemon successfully uses his dragons to take over Harrenhall. Later in the episode, Daemon has a strange hallucination in which he sees a young Rhaenyra (Millie Alcock) sewing Jaehaary’s head onto his body.

Damon wakes up and is met outside the castle by a Woman in Black (Gale Rankin), who tells him in an ominous voice, “You will die here,” before walking away.

Fans of the book Fire and Blood, on which the TV series is based, may have realised that this woman is likely Alice Rivers, who in the books was believed to be a witch who lived at Harrenhall and could see into the future.

This prophecy does not bode well for the Demons, as armies seek to occupy Harrenhae and kill Rhaenyra’s allies.

Here’s how Daemon Targaryen dies in “Fire and Blood.”

Aemon and Daemon kill each other during a duel on Lake God’s Eye near Harrenhal

Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) and Damon (Matt Smith) have a rivalry in “House of the Dragon” Season 2.

Since season 1, “House of the Dragon” has been teasing a showdown between Daemon and Aemond: They’re the strongest warriors, Aemond worships Daemon, and Daemon wants to slay Aemond’s giant dragon, Vhagar.

When Aemond first comes to Harrenhal in “Fire and Blood,” Daemon flees to help Rhaenyra take King’s Landing, the capital of Westeros. Daemon ends up going to another castle, betraying Rhaenyra and having his lover Nettles declared an enemy of the Queen.

Instead of returning to his wife, Daemon flies back to Harrenhal and challenges Aemon and Vhagar to a duel. The battle is fierce on Lake God’s Eye near the castle, and eventually the dragons collide with each other and plummet into the lake.

The demon used the opportunity to leap at Vhagar and stab Aemond in the eye, after which the two men and their dragon crashed into the lake.

Because Fire and Blood is written like a history book, the deaths of Aemon, Vhagar, and Caraxes are confirmed when their bodies are discovered, but Daemon’s body is never found, leading to the theory that he fled to his lover, Nettles.

“House of the Dragon” takes a more definitive approach, which may reveal whether the demon died in God’s Eye or escaped.
