A Pakistani woman and her teenage daughter were allegedly pushed against a wall by relatives following a dispute over property, ARY News reported.
The women recounted their terrifying experience of how their brother-in-law Suhail and his sons locked them in a room and walled themselves off outside. The victims further alleged that Suhail was harassing them and had important documents relating to their house in his possession.
The incident took place in Hyderabad’s Latifabad 5 area and the victim was rescued by police and neighbours who breached their walls.
Police have registered a case against the suspects and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Faruk Linja has assured that legal action will be taken against those responsible for this heinous act of confinement.
In a separate incident on May 24, at least five people were killed in a dispute over property in Peshawar’s Chamkani area, police sources said. Violence erupted when two factions exchanged gunfire, resulting in deaths and injuries. Police filed an FIR, noting that the dispute between the two factions had been going on for a long time.
Local authorities are currently working on reforming the law to stop unauthorised building projects and address the personal disputes that give rise to such aggressive incidents, and are also advocating for improved property rights enforcement and the introduction of more effective dispute resolution mechanisms to prevent a similar catastrophe from happening again.
