2024 NHL free agent tracker: news, signings, stats, buzz

The 2024 NHL offseason got off to an eventful start. Just four days after the Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup, the epic 2024 NHL Draft took place at the Sphere in Las Vegas, several big trades were made and 225 top prospects found new teams.

Now it’s time for the league’s 32 front offices to replenish their roster through free agency.

Here’s our continuously updated tracker with a list of every player signed, analysis of the biggest trades, talk of what’s coming next, and more.

Goaltender Jack Campbell was unable to work out a big-money contract with the Oilers and moved to the Red Wings, agreeing to a one-year, $775,000 deal.


The Capitals continued to add to their roster, signing forward Taylor Raddysh to a one-year, $1 million contract.


Another veteran defenseman is coming to Dallas, as Ilya Lyubushkin signs a two-year, $6.5 million contract with the Stars.


The Islanders are finally in the discussion! Defenseman Mike Reilly returns on a one-year contract and forward Anthony Duclair returns to the Metropolitan Division on a four-year, $14 million contract.


The Red Wings have added former Rangers defenseman Erik Gustafsson to their defensive line, agreeing to a two-year, $4 million contract.


Veteran defenseman Matt Dumba, who finished the 2023-24 season with the Lightning, is joining the Stars on a two-year, $7.5 million contract, and fellow blueliner Brendan Smith, who played last season with the Devils, is joining Dallas on a one-year, $1 million deal.


Sam Steele agreed to a one-year, $1.2 million contract with Dallas and will return to the Stars.


Veteran agitator Garnet Hathaway will remain with the Flyers on a two-year, $4.8 million contract extension.


Another Stanley Cup champion is leaving the Panthers after Ryan Lomberg signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Flames.


Former Golden Knight forward Chandler Stephenson has been traded to Seattle, signing a seven-year, $43.75 million contract with the Kraken.

While this isn’t as high-profile as the Stamkos, Marchessault and Skay deals, the Predators added another bolster to their goaltending corps by signing Scott Wedgewood to a two-year, $3 million contract.


The Stars signed Casey DeSmith to a one-year, $3 million contract to back up Jake Oettinger.


Forward Warren Vogel, who reached the Stanley Cup Final with the Oilers, is heading to Los Angeles and signing a three-year, $10.5 million contract with the Kings.


Veteran defenseman Matt Grzelik will not be guarding the Bruins defensive line, instead signing a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Penguins.


Stefan Noesen returned to the Devils after a successful season with the Hurricanes, agreeing to a three-year, $8.25 million contract.


The Stars will keep veteran forward Matt Duchene under contract after signing him to a one-year, $3 million contract extension.


Michael Amadio, a key forward for the Golden Knights the past two seasons, will join the Senators on a three-year, $7.8 million contract.


Jonathan Drouin is back with the Avalanche for 2023-24 and will continue for at least one more season, signing a one-year, $2.5 million contract.


Another former Bruins player is heading to Vancouver as Danton Heinen joins the Canucks on a two-year, $4.5 million contract.


Veteran goaltender Matt Murray agreed to a one-year, $875,000 contract to return to the Maple Leafs for the 2024-25 season.


The 2023-24 season has been a two-season spree that saw a great start turn into a tough finish for Cam Talbot, who agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Red Wings and will look to have another consistently strong season.


Former Bruins guard Jake DeBrusk arrived in Vancouver, signing a seven-year, $38.5 million contract with the Canucks.

The Blue Jackets needed some veteran additions to their center line and signed Sean Monahan to a five-year, $27.5 million contract.

The Capitals continued their roster additions, signing Brandon Duhamme to a two-year, $3.7 million contract.


After winning a Stanley Cup with the Panthers, forward Kevin Stenlund is joining the hockey club on a two-year, $4 million contract.


Defenseman William Carrier signed with the Hurricanes on a six-year, $12 million contract.


Veteran forward Kieffer Sherwood is headed to Vancouver and is set to sign a two-year, $3 million contract with the Canucks.


The Hurricanes lost several defensemen in free agency but kept a key player for the foreseeable future, agreeing to an eight-year, $51.69 million contract extension with forward Jacob Slavin.


After re-signing Joseph Wahl this offseason, the Maple Leafs added veteran Anthony Stolarz to a two-year, $5 million contract.


The Minnesota Wild signed forward Yakov Trenin to a four-year, $14 million contract.


Veteran defenseman Nikita Zadorov joined the Boston Bruins on a six-year, $30 million contract.

The Oilers added depth to their forward line for the next two seasons by signing Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year, $8 million contract.

The Sabres acquired veteran scoring winger Jason Zucker, agreeing to a one-year, $5 million contract.


Another veteran defenseman joins the Devils as Brenden Dillon agrees to a three-year, $12 million contract with New Jersey.


The Flames signed one of their teammates, Egor Sharangovich, on a five-year contract worth $28.75 million, as well as outside free agent Anthony Mantha (one-year deal worth $3.5 million).


Former Stanley Cup champion David Perron has agreed to a two-year, $4 million contract to continue his NHL career with the Senators.


Another veteran defenseman is heading to Utah as Ian Cole signs a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the hockey club.


The Bruins added a major boost to the center position by signing Elias Lindholm to a seven-year, $54.25 million contract.

The Predators entered the negotiations after signing three of the top free agents on the market.

Fresh off his Stanley Cup win, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson signed a four-year, $14 million contract with the Maple Leafs.


Veteran goaltender Eric Comrie returned to the Jets, agreeing to a one-year, $825,000 contract.


The Blackhawks focused their veteran additions around Connor Bedard this summer, adding Tyler Bertuzzi (four years, $22 million), Teuvo Teravainen (three years, $16.2 million), Pat Maroon (one year, $1.3 million), Alec Martinez (one year, $4 million) and Craig Smith (one year, $1 million).

After acquiring Jakob Chychrun in a trade, the Capitals continued to bolster their defensive line, signing Matt Roy to a seven-year, $38.5 million contract.

Sam Lafferty, a 29-year-old forward, was traded to Buffalo, signing a two-year, $4 million contract with the Sabres.


Strong forward Jordan Martinook stayed with Carolina, signing a three-year, $9.15 million contract with the Hurricanes.


The Devils added a key addition to their blue line group by signing former Hurricanes blueliner Brett Pesce to a six-year, $33 million contract.

Veteran forward Kasperi Kapanen re-signed with the Blues on a one-year, $1 million deal to remain in St. Louis.


Restricted free agent forward Connor McMichael extended his business relationship with the Capitals, signing a two-year, $4.2 million contract.


Erik Johnson played 67 games for the Flyers in 2023-24 and is set to play more in 2024-25 under his new one-year, $1 million contract with the club.


The Maple Leafs acquired exclusive negotiating rights with veteran defenseman Chris Tanev, finalizing the deal on Monday with a six-year, $27 million contract. The team also finalized a new three-year, $10.98 million contract with RFA goaltender Joseph Wahl.

The Utah Hockey Club continues to strengthen its blue line, re-signing RFA Sean Darge to a four-year, $24 million contract.


The Maple Leafs need to bolster their blue line this summer and will start by re-signing one of their own players, RFA Timothy Liljegren, to a two-year, $6 million contract.
