The 2024 Copa America will bring together North and South America in a special edition of the CONMEBOL continental championship, celebrating the preparations for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.
The Copa America, which will be held in the United States, will feature the usual 10 South American nations, plus six guest North American teams who will take on the best teams from CONMEBOL for the continental crown.
Defending champions Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, and world football powerhouse Brazil will have to make their way through a 16-team tournament that features the usual challengers as well as teams such as the United States, Mexico and Jamaica, which the North American Confederation is expecting to mount a stiff challenge ahead of the FIFA tournament being held in their home country in 2026.
The draw for the group stage was completed on December 7th, and all participating teams now know their fate and will compete in the main tournament, aiming to prove themselves against the world’s best teams.

The 2024 Copa America will feature 16 teams in four groups of four. The draw took place on Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Miami, Florida.
The tournament will begin on June 20, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia with the opening group stage match between defending champions Argentina and playoff winners Canada. The group stage will run until July 2, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout stage, while the bottom two will be eliminated.
The knockout stage will begin with the quarterfinals on 4 July and will be played out in a single-elimination format until the end, with the only exception being a third-place play-off for teams eliminated in the semifinals, which will be played the day before the final on 14 July.

Copa America 2024 Participating Teams
The 16 teams for the 2024 Copa America have been split into four pots of four teams each for the group stage draw.
Pot 1 will consist of four pre-drawn teams split into first place in each of the four groups. First up will be defending champions Argentina, who have been pre-selected into Group A and will play in the opening match of the tournament. Rounding out Pot 1 will be reigning CONCACAF Gold Cup champions Mexico, hosts and defending CONCACAF Nations League champions United States, and next highest-ranked team Brazil from CONMEBOL.
The remaining four pots will be determined by FIFA rankings, with the two winners of the CONCACAF playoffs pre-drawn into Pot 4. The two spots will be decided in a playoff in March, with Canada narrowly beating out Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica narrowly beating out Honduras.

Sixteen teams will take part – 10 from CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF – with four groups of four teams each competing in the first phase.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, where eight teams will compete against each other in a single-elimination format.
