The fashion calendar is always filled with trends that catch our eye throughout the year. We usually forget it’s that time of year, but when Couture Week arrives, it brings the inspiration we need to start planning our wardrobes for the rest of the year. With many of the Couture Fashion Week shows focusing on an avant-garde approach to design, it’s the perfect time to get creative, and the attendees at the show do just that. While I’m often taking notes on and off the runway, wearing trends that you’d never expect from a traditional French female crowd, today I want to talk about what I saw on the street style scene.
From the biggest oversized shoulder pads we’ve ever seen at Viktor & Rolf to the lampshade-inspired hats that caught my eye at Balenciaga, the runways showed that there are no rules when it comes to street style this season. Here are seven trends to keep an eye on.
1. Jewelry Elements
If you love wearing jewelry as much as I do, you’ll have fun jumping on this trend of gold, silver and diamonds on clothing. The trend was inspired by Schiaparelli’s recent collection, so Couture Week was the perfect place to show it off.

2. Hats that are conversation starters
Recent runway seasons saw the resurgence of playful hats, and we’ve been thinking about how to style them ever since, but we’re finally seeing some great examples among the street style set, and this trend is perfect for spiceing up a look you already own.

3. Casual suits
Although suits are known as a dressy look in women’s clothing, I love seeing suits worn as everyday wear. Paired with casual sneakers or simple ballet flats, this style is ideal.

Nothing caught my eye more than the textured clothing I was seeing everywhere among the street style crowd. Feathers, fringe, and other 3D elements are an eye-catching addition to any outfit.
