This beauty trend continues to gain traction, with butter yellow being one of the most requested nail polish shades this summer. First spotted on Selena Gomez (who applied her nails with trend-pioneer manicurist Tom Baczyk), the butter nail trend started with a single cream color applied evenly across the entire nail. But the trend has evolved, and now we’re seeing a new version of this style, one that combines a French manicure with the on-trend butter color.

Known by the clever name of Butter French, this manicure doesn’t require anything complicated, new or original: Imagine if the French manicure gave birth to butter nails (and maybe even glazed donut nails).
The first step is the same as any other manicure. File your nails to the shape of your choice. Oval and round shapes are the most popular on trend, but any will do. After applying a base coat of a near-nude color, you (or your nail technician) will use a thin brush or French manicure stickers (a genius invention for women who do their nails at home) to perfect your smile line with a bright yellow shade. For a more subtle, non-manicure look, apply another layer of a nude-based shade directly on top of the yellow. Of course, a top coat is the final step to ensure the longevity of your manicure.

Other Variations of Butter Nails
If you’re feeling creative, why not try baby French, maximalist maxi French or glazed donut nails for a more experimental take on the trend.
