A total of 10 military personnel will compete representing the United States at this year’s Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. They are all members of the U.S. Army.
Seven active-duty soldiers are scheduled to compete as part of the U.S. team at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris later this month, defense officials said. Three athletes are also scheduled to compete in the Paralympics in late August.
Selection for Team USA ended on June 30, with the Army making up the majority of the U.S. military roster. Soldiers on Team USA will compete in shooting, rugby, track and field, wrestling and swimming. Additionally, two other soldiers will serve as coaches for Team USA in the pentathlon and wrestling events.
A small number of military personnel join the U.S. team every other year at either the Summer or Winter Olympics. Nine military personnel competed at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris will open on July 26, with more than 500 athletes from the U.S. team competing.
The following U.S. Army athletes will be competing in this year’s Olympics:
- Staff Sergeant Rachel Tozier, Army Marksmanship – Shooting: Olympic Trap
- Sergeant Will Hinton (Army Marksmanship) – Shooting: Olympic Trap
- Sergeant Sergeant Maddalena (Army Shooting Corps) – Shooting: 50m Small Caliber Rifle, 10m Air Rifle
- Sergeant Ivan Law (Army Shooting Corps) – Shooting: 50m Small Bore Gun, 10m Air Rifle
- Capt. Samantha K. Sullivan (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Women’s Rugby Team
- Staff Sergeant Leonard E. Coryell (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Track and Field: Marathon
- Specialist Kamal Bey (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Greco-Roman Wrestling (77 kg)
- Sergeant Dennis Bowsher (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Modern Pentathlon Coach
- Sergeant First Class Spencer Mango, U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program – Wrestling Coach
The following athletes will compete in the Paralympic Games:
- Sergeant John Wayne Joss III (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Shooting: R6 50m Rifle Prone SH1
- Staff Sergeant Kevin Nguyen (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Shooting: R6 50m Rifle Prone SH1
- Staff Sergeant Elizabeth Marks (U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program) – Paralympic Swimming
