ISLAMABAD: Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Wednesday said that power supply restrictions in Karachi would be eased by K-Electric in the coming days, according to ARY News.

The move comes after Pakistanis complained numerous times about frequent power outages across the country, especially in Sindh province.

Speaking to the media recently, the Minister said that K-Electric is trying to reduce the duration of power outages especially during peak hours at night and on hot days to provide relief to the people.

According to ARY News, K Electric CEO Monis Abdullah Alvi, NSCL’s Zaigham Adil Rizvi and STDC (Sindh Transmission and Distribution Company)’s Muhammad Salim Shaikh signed the agreement to build a 40 MW transmission line from Pipli transmission station to NSCL at Port Qasim Authority.

STDC is the first licensee of the Provincial Grid Company (PGC) with the authority to build electricity transmission infrastructure with voltages of 132 KV and above.

According to Nasir Shah, the 132KV transmission line will carry 40 megawatts of power from K Electric to National Steel Complex via STDC, reported ARY News.

According to the Energy Minister, the installation of 132KV transmission lines is another aspect of the project.

Residents in Quetta, Lahore, Peshawar and Karachi have complained of extended power outages, with power companies also cutting power supply citing load management and maintenance needs, worsening the situation.

Besides residents, shopkeepers were the most affected by the prolonged power outage, with power cuts in urban areas of Peshawar lasting between five and eight hours, while residents in the city’s rural areas reported blackouts lasting between 14 and 16 hours.

Similarly, in Lahore, people continued to face power outages.

Residents of Allama Iqbal Town and Nishtar Town reported that their areas suffered a six-hour power outage, according to Dawn newspaper.
