UK Election 2024: The Labour Party wins the UK general election, gaining a majority of 326 seats in the House of Commons. Keir Starmer becomes the new Prime Minister.
Friday’s result ended 14 years of Conservative rule, which saw five prime ministers in power, with outgoing chancellor Rishi Sunak conceding defeat after several cabinet ministers lost their seats.
The previous parliament, under Rishi Sunak as chancellor, had 15 MPs of Indian origin – eight from the Labour Party and seven from the Conservative Party.
As many as 107 British Indians are contesting for 680 seats in the 2024 general election. Reports suggest that the House of Representatives is expected to have more Indian MPs than the previous one.
