The Powdersville Fire Department was called to extinguish a dumpster fire involving fireworks. Just before 4 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, Fire Station 7 was dispatched to a report of a dumpster fire at a business along Highway 153. According to the Powdersville Fire Department, the dumpster was close to the building and the heat caused the lights to melt. The dumpster was relatively empty otherwise the fire could have spread to the building. After the fire was extinguished, the fire department determined that the used firework container had been placed in the dumpster before it got wet. The Powdersville Fire Department urges the public to be careful how they dispose of used fireworks.

PFD said the heat from the dumpster melted the lights due to its proximity to the building, and that the fire could have otherwise spread to the building since the dumpster was relatively empty.
After the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered the used firework containers had been thrown in a trash can before being doused in water.
The Powdersville Fire Department wants to remind residents to be careful how they dispose of used fireworks.
