LOS ANGELES (KABC) — “Machete” star Danny Trejo was caught up in a fight that broke out at the Sunland Tujunga Independence Day Parade.
The incident began when someone threw a water balloon at the vintage convertible Trejo was riding in, which is when things started to get tense.
Video posted to social media shows the 80-year-old actor confronting a man on the sidelines, presumably the man who threw the water balloons. The footage shows Trejo throwing a punch at the man, who then fights back. The man’s punch misses him, resulting in a scuffle that ends with Trejo falling to the ground.
The man who attacked Trejo then punched another man in the face, knocking him to the ground.
A larger brawl broke out but was quickly stopped by bystanders who defused the situation.
During the scuffle, Trejo grabbed a folding chair and threw it.
Later video shows Trejo arguing with a woman who appears to be holding him back.
Witnesses said he quickly pulled out his mobile phone and filmed the heated moments, which reportedly lasted nearly 10 minutes before police arrived.
“This parade is like throwing water balloons at each other,” said witness Stanley Herarte.
“Danny was furious because normally people don’t throw water balloons when a luxury car goes by,” he added.
Eyewitness News has reached out to Trejo’s representatives and parade organizers for comment.
Trejo has made a career out of playing tough guys and bad guys in Hollywood, and he’s perhaps best known for his character Machete in a number of films directed by Robert Rodriguez.
In recent years, the company has also expanded into the food business.
