PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — One person was killed and eight others injured in a Fourth of July shooting in Southwest Philadelphia on Thursday night.
Nine people, four minors and five adults, were shot in Southwest Philadelphia Thursday night, police said.
According to police, nine people, three juveniles and six adults, were shot near the intersection of 60th Avenue and Kingsessing Road at 11:40 p.m.
Officers on a routine patrol reportedly found one victim lying on the ground.
Additional victims were discovered by responding officers and several others were transported to area hospitals.
Action News reports the boys are reportedly between 14 and 16 years old.
The identity of the murder victim has not yet been released, but police say he was approximately 20 years old. The victim was shot once in the head and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The other victims are said to be in stable condition.
Authorities said the crime scene spanned two blocks and that a barbecue may have been taking place at the time.
Police have not described the suspect or released any information about a motive.
“At this point, there is no motive that we’re aware of,” Philadelphia Police Lt. Kpana Massaquoi said.
Authorities continue to search for those responsible.
