“We are heartbroken to hear that Kyrie Jackson passed away after an overnight car accident,” the team said in a statement. “We have spoken with Kyrie’s family and offered our support as the Minnesota Vikings while we continue to gather more information. We have also shared this news with Vikings players, coaches and staff, and have offered counseling to anyone in need of emotional support. Our thoughts are with Kyrie’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, and all of the victims of this tragic accident.”
The Vikings’ announcement also included a statement from head coach Kevin O’Connell.
“I am truly shocked to hear the news,” O’Connell said. “Kyrie brought an infectious energy to our facility and team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately attracted his teammates. In our short time together, it was clear that Kyrie would develop into a great professional football player, but what was even more impressive was his drive to be the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am lost for words, and my heart goes out to Kyrie’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”
General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said: “We are heartbroken by Kyrie’s passing. As we got to know him through the pre-draft process, it became clear what goals Kyrie wanted to achieve both professionally and personally. His story was one of resilience. He was driven to become the best version of himself, not only for himself, but for those who cared and respected him. Kyrie’s personality captivated every room he was in. I am devastated that his life and all that was before him was cut short. My thoughts are with Kyrie’s family and friends, those he played with and coached in college, and his teammates and coaches here at the Vikings.”
Jackson was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 draft after transferring from Alabama and finishing his collegiate career at Oregon.
