Hyderabad: Kanishka Narayan (33), an Indian-origin man from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, won the UK general election as the Labour candidate for Glamorgan, Wales, against Conservative member Alan Cairns.

Kanishka’s uncle and dean of SKJ Law College Jayant Kumar said his nephew Kanishka had made not only Muzaffarpur but the entire country proud.

“Kanishka is my younger brother’s son. He quit his job to contest elections. He has always been interested in politics,” Jayant Kumar said.

Kanishka was born in Muzaffarpur and studied there up to the third standard.

He was previously a civil servant. After the elections were announced, he resigned from his job and entered politics.

Two months later, Kanishka travelled to India with his family to attend a religious event.

Meanwhile, celebrations are underway at Kanishka’s residence in Sandho Apartment in Damchak, Muzaffarpur following his election as a Member of Parliament.

Kanishka Kumar’s grandparents, Krishna Kumar and Veena Devi, originally hail from Sanda in Vaishali district and settled in Muzaffarpur many years ago.

Krishna Kumar was the founder of SKJ Law College and served as chairman of Muzaffarpur district committee.

After graduating from SKJ Law College, Kanishka’s mother Chetna Sinha and father Santosh Kumar moved to Delhi.

Kanishka briefly studied at APJ School in Saket, Delhi. Kanishka and his parents moved to the UK when he was 12. He did his postgraduate studies at Eton and Oxford, the prestigious college where India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru graduated.
