Auterion, a Swiss-based open source autonomous computing technology provider, has announced a new solution that will enable militaries to combat drones at the expense of smartphones.

Auterion’s Skynode S is a combined drone computer and flight controller that provides fully autonomous flight to reach and destroy ground targets with great precision. With swarm control, fully autonomous flight, and immunity to jamming, the Skynode S increases success rates from 20% to over 90%, according to the company.

The low-cost, NDAA-compliant technology has already proven useful in combat missions in Ukraine by providing Ukrainian forces with advanced computer vision to counter the loss of GPS and radio frequency targeting in electronic warfare.

The anti-jamming capabilities of SkyNode S are undoubtedly groundbreaking. Traditional drones often fall prey to electronic jamming, a common tactic used to disrupt military operations by cutting communication links and navigation systems. However, SkyNode is built to withstand such interference, detecting and mitigating jamming threats in real-time. This capability provides a key advantage by allowing military forces to count on drone support regardless of what electronic warfare tactics their enemies employ.

Additionally, Auterion is pricing its software at a parity with smartphones, allowing U.S. manufacturers to democratize high-tech combat drones and get ahead of Chinese competitors. Additionally, the Skynode S comes with a targeting app that is compatible with regular computers, making it suitable for commercial use.

Auterion explains that Skynode S has been developed over several months with government and industry partners in the US, EU and Ukraine, including hundreds of test flights and successful frontline efforts with Auterion’s Ukrainian customers.

“Skynode S is dual-use, allowing commercial operators to deploy small, low-cost drones in restricted airspace or indoors, and also integrate cameras, radios and on-board apps all into the platform. This enables the deployment of unmanned systems running AI and computer vision applications in quantities that can deliver strategic-level impact,” the company said.

Auterion founder and CEO Lorenz Meier sums up: “Our technology is transforming the battlefield and helping democracies defend themselves. We are proud to contribute to Ukraine’s efforts with smarter, more accurate, and more cost-effective technology that will enable Ukraine to use drones on an increasingly large scale to defeat aggressors.”
