{KXLG – Watertown, South Dakota} Lake Area Technical College (LATC) Law Enforcement student Isabel Johnson from Sioux Falls won a gold medal in the Criminal Justice division at the prestigious SkillsUSA National Championships. The competition, held in Atlanta, Georgia, is the largest in the world, with 108 different career and technical fields competing.

“We are extremely proud of Isabel’s achievement,” said Nikki Mark, SkillsUSA Director for South Dakota. “Her dedication, hard work and the excellent education LATC provided all combined to produce this incredible achievement.”

The SkillsUSA Championships took place June 24-29, coinciding with the organization’s 61st annual National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC). More than 7,000 students from career and technical education programs across the country competed in the week-long event.

The SkillsUSA National Championships is the largest skills competition in the world, with students competing in 108 career and technical fields. Isabel’s achievement reflects her dedication, hard work and the high standards that LATC’s educational programs maintain.

SkillsUSA serves more than 400,000 students and instructors in middle schools, high schools, and colleges/higher education institutions across the U.S. and its three territories. Since its founding in 1965, the organization has served more than 14 million members.

SkillsUSA offers programs in 130 trade, technical and skilled service occupations and is recognized by the U.S. Departments of Education and Labor as a key component of career and technical education and a successful model for employer-led youth development training.
