BERKELEY, Calif. – July 9 – The U.S. women’s team lost to Hungary, 10-8, tonight at the Spieker Aquatics Complex in Berkeley. Rachel Fattal, Maddie Musselmanand Jewel Romer All scored two points for Team USA. Ashley Johnson He recorded 10 saves while in the cage.
The visitors got off to a dream start to the match, holding a strong U.S. attack scoreless in the first quarter and leading 3-0 after the first quarter with goals from Rita Keszthelyi and Camila Farago (2). Hungary extended their lead midway through the second period with an early hat trick from Farago. Kayleigh Gilchrist gave the U.S. a point 2 minutes, 32 seconds before the end of the first half. Hungary responded through Rebecca Parks, then Musselman took advantage on the power play to make the score 5-2 in favor of the visitors at the end of the first half.
Romer scored the first goal of the third quarter to put Team USA up by two. Farago continued her big scoring night with a player advantage goal, followed by Musselman doing the same for the U.S. Two minutes later, Greta Grisatti found the net for Hungary, followed by a 3-0 lead. Then, Keszthelyi and Fattal traded goals. Finally, Kristina Garda and Roemer traded points to give Hungary a 10-8 victory.
