George Stephanopoulos doesn’t think the president can last another four years

  • Days after his highly publicized interview with Biden, George Stephanopoulos said he doesn’t think Biden is fit for the top job.
  • “I don’t think I can serve another four years,” he told a passerby in the video obtained by TMZ.
  • Stephanopoulos is the latest critic to question whether Biden is eligible to run for reelection.

George Stephanopoulos expressed doubts about President Joe Biden’s ability to serve another term in office, just days after giving an interview to him.

TMZ obtained the video, which shows the ABC host walking down the street in New York City when someone asks him a question about Biden.

In the video, the people filmed Stephanopoulos walking toward them in tracksuits and, while looking away from the host, asked, “Do you think Biden should resign? You’ve talked to him more than anybody lately. Please answer honestly.”

“I don’t think he can serve another four years,” Stephanopoulos responded.

The anchor acknowledged that he made the comments, but told TMZ, “I answered a question from a passerby today. I shouldn’t have done that.”

An ABC News spokesperson told TMZ, “George was expressing his own views, not the position of ABC News.”

During Stephanopoulos’ interview with Biden on ABC News on Friday, the president gave no indication that he plans to resign following his disastrous defeat in the June 27 presidential debate.

During the debate, Trump told Stephanopoulos he was just having a “bad night”, and repeatedly said in the interview that only “God Almighty” could force Trump out of the race.

Stephanopoulos is not the only political commentator who has recently interacted with Biden to express doubts about whether he can run for another term.

CNN’s Jake Tapper, who moderated the presidential debate, read Biden’s remarks during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“That audio should be reassuring,” Tapper said.

Leading Democrats, donors and former Biden supporters have questioned whether Biden is eligible to run for president.

But Biden has responded defiantly to the opposition, saying he has no plans to resign.

An anonymous source told Politico: During a Zoom call “I want to say this as clearly and as simply and frankly as I can: I’m running,” Trump said at a July 3 meeting with staff.

He reiterated that in a letter to House Democrats on Monday: “I would not run again if I did not believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.”

“The question of how to proceed from now has been under discussion for well over a week now,” Biden wrote. “And it is time to end it.”

Representatives for Stephanopoulos and Biden did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request for comment sent outside regular business hours.
