Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman endorsed Donald Trump for the US presidential election on July 14. He posted on X: “I’m officially endorsing @realDonaldTrump. As many @X followers have already understood from my posts supporting Trump and criticizing @POTUS Biden, I made this decision some time ago. His comments came amid the attempted shooting of Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.”
“I haven’t done so formally yet because I want to explain my thinking in detail and address the arguments made by others who oppose Trump. I want to make a thoughtful and compelling case,” he said.
“It would take a long post to explain my thoughts. I might even break my own record. With the election still a few months away, I don’t feel the time or urgency to write a post,” he added.
“I am answering the many questions I have received on this matter and explaining my conclusions now so that they are publicly on the record. Of course, you don’t have to worry about my opinion, so you don’t have to read my post when it is posted. That said, I believe this upcoming presidential election is one of the most important elections of my lifetime, and so I will take an appropriate time to express my views, which I share broadly and which I bear an important responsibility for,” he said.
Speaking about his recent meeting with the former president, he said: “As always, I respect your right to form and share your own opinion on this important issue. Please remain open-minded when it comes to the upcoming presidential election. Please remember that if you have been getting your information about Trump from the mainstream media, or from friends or family who rely on the mainstream media as a source of knowledge, your opinion of Trump has likely been heavily influenced.”
“We’ve learned the hardest recently that we cannot rely on the mainstream media as a source of truth on ultimate political issues,” he added.
Finally, he writes, “Remember, media organizations are like sports teams, with coaches hired to execute plays selected by the owners. They are not impartial arbiters of the truth.”
