In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to miss out on some of the week’s biggest happenings. But don’t worry, our Weekly Tech Wrap brings you a round-up of the top 5 news stories from the tech world this week. Let’s dive right in: This week, Samsung made some big announcements at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Elon Musk explained that Neuralink will soon be able to give people superpowers, and WhatsApp is reportedly working on improving its meta AI features.

Top 5 Tech News this Week:

1) Samsung launches Galaxy Z Flip 6, Z Fold 6 and other products:

Samsung unveiled a slew of new products at its Galaxy Unpacked 2024 event in Paris. The new product lineup includes the Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Ring.

Both the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. The Z Fold 6 has a 10MP front camera and a 4MP under-display camera. There are three cameras on the back: a 12MP ultra-wide, a 50MP wide-angle with 2x optical quality zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced at $1899. In India, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced at $1899. ₹164999.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Flip 6 comes with a 50MP wide 2x optical zoom and 12MP ultra-wide camera on the back. The battery capacity is 4000mAh, which is 300mAh more than the Galaxy Z Flip 5. The latest Samsung foldable phone will be available in 256GB and 512GB storage models with prices starting at $1,200. ₹1,09,999.

2) WhatsApp’s Meta AI may soon get a major upgrade.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new update that will allow Meta AI to reply to and edit photos sent by users. The new feature was spotted by WABetainfo in WhatsApp beta version 2.24.14.20 and may make it into the stable build soon.

According to reports, WhatsApp is testing the implementation of a new chat button that will allow users to share photos directly with Meta AI. After sending an image to Meta AI, users can ask the chatbot to identify a specific object or provide context. Additionally, users can also ask Meta AI to modify the image via a text prompt.

Screenshots shared by WABetainfo also reveal that WhatsApp may state that it will provide users with complete control over their photos by giving them the power to delete them at any time.

3) Apple may start producing iPads and AirPods in India.

According to sources cited by Moneycontrol, Apple had earlier partnered with China-based BYD for iPad production but it was called off due to geopolitical constraints. Now, Apple has resumed efforts and may soon secure an Indian partner to resume iPad manufacturing. Moreover, Apple is gearing up to start producing AirPods in India by early 2025.

The company is also considering ramping up production of components for the AirPods wireless charging case through India’s Jabil, the paper added. Prototyping of these components has already begun in Pune, and Apple is considering a similar partnership with Taiwan’s Foxconn. If quality testing and approvals are successful, Jabil plans to ramp up commercial production of these components to meet both export and domestic demand.

4) OpenAI may be working on a breath-through inference technique called “Strawberry.”

According to a new report from Reuters, OpenAI, led by Sam Altman, is working on a new inference technique for large-scale language models (LLMs), codenamed “Strawberry.” The ChatGPT developer reportedly hopes that Strawberry will dramatically improve the inference capabilities of AI models.

Strawberry will reportedly employ specialized methods for handling AI models that have been pre-trained on very large datasets, including a specialized way of “post-training” OpenAI’s generative AI models, or adapting models to perform better in specific ways even after they’ve been “trained” on generalized data.

OpenAI reportedly wants to use Strawberry to perform long-term tasks (LHTs), which require AI models to plan ahead and execute a series of actions over an extended period of time.

5) Elon Musk’s plan to give humans “superpowers”:

Elon Musk’s brain-computer startup, NeuAlink, plans to implant its device in a second patient within about a week, company executives confirmed at an X briefing. So far, Arizona resident Noland Arbaugh is the only person to have received a brain chip implant, but Musk has said he hopes that number will grow into the high single digits by the end of the year.

During a live briefing on X (formerly Twitter), Musk said Neurallink’s long-term goal is to “mitigate the long-term civilizational risks of AI.” He said Neurallink will help create a “closer symbiosis between human intelligence and digital intelligence.”

“I think there could be cybernetic superpowers in the future,” Musk added.
