“Making Team USA,” brought to you by Xfinity, will explore the stories and struggles of Team USA athletes as they compete to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games.
From Loomis Alex Aubert Aubert returned and headed to Paris for her third Olympic Games. The University of Pacific star retired after the Tokyo Olympics and began life after retirement. Aubert got married, had children, and started a career in finance.
“Paris is the last place my wife and I traveled to before we became parents, so it holds fond memories for us. It will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Late last year, Aubert got a call from the head coach. Dejan Udovicic He was asked if he would consider coming out of retirement, and it was an opportunity he couldn’t turn down.
“I [Senior National] “Dejan has been taking over since day one, so me and him have kind of been connected throughout my career as a water polo player,” Aubert explained. “My relationship with him and him with me is definitely one of the main reasons I came back. I never would have come back with any other coach.”
Aubert is one of 10 swimmers with Olympic experience, having competed at the 2023 Pan American Games and 2024 World Aquatics Championships. That experience has him thinking big this summer.
“My goal of winning an Olympic medal is something I haven’t achieved yet. This is my third Olympics and I feel like this is the best opportunity for us. That’s definitely what brought me back and that’s our main goal as a team,” Aubert said.
The last time the U.S. men won an Olympic water polo medal was in 2008 at Beijing, where they won silver, but have never won gold. The chance to make history with this team is an enticing one, one that Obert’s friends and family would understand.
“Some of my friends, because they know me and how competitive I am, were like, ‘Of course.’ My family tried to understand all sides of me. [of coming out of retirement] But they always supported me because they know who I really am and how much I love to compete.”
