KOLKATA: Suvendu Adhikari, a senior BJP leader in West Bengal, has launched a portal where legitimate voters who were allegedly denied their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections and recent by-elections can lodge complaints.
Adhikari alleged that thousands of voters were unable to cast their votes in the state assembly by-elections held on July 10 in four districts.
“As promised, we have launched a portal where genuine voters who were unable to cast their vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the recently concluded Assembly by-polls can register their names.
“Anyone who didn’t have the right to vote can register and complete secrecy will be ensured. Here is the link: https:avedemocracywb.com,” the opposition leader in parliament said in a post on X on Monday.
At a demonstration by alleged victims of post-election violence held outside the Raj Bhavan, Adhikari announced that 100 genuine voters who were deprived of the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights in the by-elections and Lok Sabha elections would gather in front of Government House to “expose the TMC’s terror and intimidation during voting.”
Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh termed the BJP’s claim as “an indication of the dissatisfaction of the saffron party’s state leadership over the BJP’s failure to win any seats despite making grand claims to the central leadership.”
“Adhikari is frustrated as he faces repeated rejection from the people of West Bengal. He should face reality,” Ghosh said.
The BJP lost all four seats in the July 10 state assembly by-elections and two in the June 1 state assembly by-elections, but the TMC won the by-elections by a landslide. Also, in the West Bengal Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 12 seats while the TMC won 29.
