Shafaq News / A suicide bomber driving a vehicle packed with explosives attacked a Pakistani military base on Tuesday, killing eight soldiers and 10 militants. The attackers struck the base’s perimeter wall.
The Pakistani military reported that suicide bombers rammed a vehicle into the outer wall of a military housing complex in Bannu city, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, early Monday morning.
The explosion caused part of the wall to collapse, destroying nearby infrastructure and killing eight soldiers.
Following the attack, the military said security forces had killed 10 attackers.
“The decisive and immediate response of the security forces averted a catastrophe,” the military said.
Officials confirmed that all 10 militants involved in the bombings of Pakistani military installations were killed in the 18-hour operation.
A faction of the Pakistani Taliban led by militant commander Hafiz Gul Bahadur claimed responsibility for the attack, which was condemned by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other officials.
Pakistan has consistently expressed concern about the Taliban regime in neighbouring Afghanistan.
The military called on Afghanistan to “prevent terrorists from continuing to use Afghan territory for their operations and take effective action against such forces.”
Pakistan’s military “will continue to protect its country and people from the evils of terrorism and will take all necessary measures against the threat emanating from Afghanistan,” he said.
There was no immediate reaction from Kabul.
Pakistan has seen a surge in militant attacks in recent years, particularly in its northwestern region bordering Afghanistan.
Previous attacks have been blamed on the Pakistani Taliban, another group allied with the Afghan Taliban.
