Mumbai: The Mumbai Press Club has announced the results of its biannual elections for 2024 to 2026. The election saw an impressive turnout with 681 members voting and electing a new President, Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer and Managing Committee.
Samar Kadas, a senior journalist with Maharashtra Times, has been elected as the club’s new president and has promised to bring renewed vigour and focus to the presidency. He will be supported by a new leadership team that includes president Rajesh Mascarenhas, vice-president Rajnish Kakade, secretary Mayuresh Ganapathie, joint secretary Ashish S. Raje and treasurer Sourav P. Sharma.
The election process was supervised by Chief Election Officer Shaikh R. Khalis and Deputy Chief Election Officer Mahaske Dhondiva who ensured transparency and integrity throughout the voting process.
Samar Kardas has been elected as the new president of the Mumbai Press Club. Kardas received 472 votes, far ahead of his opponent Anita D. Shukla’s 181. Of the 681 votes cast, 28 were invalid.
Rajesh Mascarenhas of The Economic Times was elected unopposed as Chair, demonstrating the broad support and confidence of the membership. Similarly, Kakade Rajnish was elected unopposed as the new Vice Chair, demonstrating the strong leadership expected.
Mayuresh Ganapati of News18 was elected secretary in a landslide victory, securing 503 votes. His opponent Wasim Haider Sayed secured 150 votes out of 680, with 27 votes invalidated.
Ashish S Raje of Mid-Day was elected Joint Secretary with 441 votes while Kashyap S Sudhakar got 207. The total number of votes cast was 679 with 31 spoilt votes. This victory underlines Ashish’s commitment to serve the Press Club and its members.
Mr. Sourav P. Sharma was appointed as the Treasurer without any opposition as it was agreed that he was capable of managing the finances of the Club effectively.
The following ten candidates have been elected to the Steering Committee, reflecting the diverse and dynamic group that will drive the Press Club forward:

3. Anurag A. Kumble – 466 votes
4. Lucha P. Canorcal – 478 votes
5. Gaurav Raghad – 411 votes
6. Shashank A. Parade – 456 votes
7. Pravin V. Patil – 488 votes
8. Ashish Rane – 517 votes
9. Ratikesh Sharma – 422 votes
10. Kiran Umrigar – 460 votes
Other candidates who were contesting included Brijvan B Jaiswal, Swapnil A Shinde, Anita D Shukla and Santosh Tiwari, who received notable support but failed to win the seat.
