Keeping Up with the Kardashians is a huge burden shoulder.
However, women looking to achieve a sexy figure are ignoring the weight of the lift to achieve a K-esque figure.
“Me after seeing Kylie and Kendall’s shoulders on a yacht in Mallorca,” fitness influencer @ProteckPhilippe, better known as PP, said in a TikTok video showing his grueling upper-arm workout.
The brunette has focused her training on achieving the svelte figure of her A-list sisters Kylie, 26, and Kendall, 28, who got their toned figures whilst holidaying on a luxury cruise off the coast of Spain in June.
“Yacht shoulders,” PP captioned the post, which garnered more than 7.6 million views from her digital audience, many of whom were unhappy that she started yet another Kardashian-created trend.
A newcomer to the body modification movement, “yacht shoulders” are characterized by slender, chiseled shoulders, a slim neck and chic, protruding collarbones.
But unlike the “trap-tox” craze, in which beauticians inject Botox into the trapezius muscles to achieve a slimmer appearance, yacht-shouldered ladies are flocking to the gym in pursuit of an enviable look.
“Yacht shoulders are here!” vows British exercise content creator Natalie Rose as she works out with weights.
Health and wellness trendsetter Natalie Jennings echoed Rose’s sentiments, sharing a snippet of her own routine using a shoulder exercise machine.
Lifestyle influencer Natalia also proudly posted on TikTok: “I’m so happy to announce that I actually have yacht shoulders,” she wrote in the closed caption of the post. “So happy.”
But unfortunately, not everyone sees the ultra-slim trend as a blessing.
“The beauty standards for arms and shoulders are insane,” thundered a critic under PP’s viral video.
“Hmm, they’re also getting Ozempic and tons of work and maintenance,” another person claimed about the Kardashians.
“Love yourself,” urged a concerned commenter.
And a little self-love and cutting back on social media use might just be what’s right for impressionable young women.
In fact, a February 2023 study conducted by the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Eastern Ontario found that cutting teenagers’ scrolling time in half could lead to “significant” improvements in their body shape within a few weeks.
Alyssa McKay, a 23-year-old from Manhattan, previously told The Washington Post that she quickly regretted spending $7,000 on breast implants to emulate Kylie’s ample chest.
“When I had breast implants, the beauty trend was to have big breasts and a big butt, like the Kardashians,” she said of her buxom family.
“I wish I had waited a little longer and thought about whether surgery was something I really wanted to do,” MacKay continued.
“I just want to be happy with who I am and my body.”
