With less than four months to go until the US presidential election, Democrats remain divided over candidate Joe Biden, with former President Barack Obama also privately expressing reservations about Biden’s candidacy.
Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi also warned the president that if he did not retract his decision to run, Democrats would likely lose their chance to regain control of the House of Representatives.
President Obama, who has supported Biden so far, has expressed concern about Biden’s chances of defeating Republican candidate Donald Trump.
The Washington Post reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that President Obama believes Biden, whose cognitive abilities have recently come into question, needs to reevaluate his “possible candidacy.”
This weekend is said to be a crucial one as President Biden has contracted COVID-19 and it will be the right time to reassess.
According to the Associated Press, Pelosi presented Biden with polling data that more or less predicted his defeat, but the 81-year-old politician has no plans to stop there, insisting that he beat Trump in 2020 and that he is the one who can do it again.
