- Melania Trump attended the fourth night of the Republican National Convention.
- The former first lady wore a red skirt suit, a traditional Republican color.
- She has made rare public appearances since Trump announced his 2024 presidential bid.
After missing the first three days of the 2024 Republican National Convention, Melania Trump made an unusual campaign appearance on the fourth night.
The former first lady entered Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum to rapturous applause wearing a classic Republican red skirt suit, also worn by Donald Trump Jr.’s fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle and J.D. Vance’s wife Usha Chirukuri Vance.
She waved to the crowd before taking her place in the VIP box next to Mr. Vance.
Since Donald Trump announced he would seek reelection in November 2022, First Lady Melania Trump has made few campaign appearances, including attending Rosalynn Carter’s funeral in November 2023 and speaking at a naturalization ceremony at the National Archives in December 2023.
After the attempted assassination of her husband on Saturday, Melania Trump released a statement calling the attacker “a monster who perceived my husband as an inhuman political machine.”
“When I saw that vicious bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized that my life and Barron’s were on the brink of devastating change,” she wrote. She was unaccompanied by her son, Barron, on Thursday night.
She did not speak at the convention, but Donald Trump used his speech to thank her for her “beautiful” letter, which “calls for national unity.”
“It was a real surprise for the Republican Party, to be honest,” he said.
Melania Trump joined him on stage after his speech, the longest party convention acceptance speech in modern history.
